Creamy Sweet Potato Mash

So we both absolutely love sweet potato and have to eat it at least once a week. We’ve tried it in every form you can possibly think of and this is probably one of the easiest and most satisfying ways you can cook it. Plus, it tastes amazing – think buttery, creamy and packed with flavour.

Servings: 2
Total time: 25 minutes


  • 500g Sweet potato
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • Handful of grated cheese
  • 2 heaped tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Milk
  • Salt
  • Black pepper


First, peel the sweet potato and cut into cubes. Peel the garlic and give them a light bash to split them open.

Cook the sweet potato and garlic in a pot of boiling water for 15 minutes or until the sweet potato almost falls apart when poked with a fork.
(Tip: the sweet potato will cook quicker if you put a lid on top, but leave a small gap so that the water doesn’t boil over.)

Drain the water out and then transfer the sweet potato mixture back into the same pot. Away from the heat, use a potato masher or spoon to mash the potato until it is smooth.

Add the butter and milk. Return to the hob and on a low heat mash together. Add the cheese and mix until melted. Finally season with salt and pepper.

Serve whilst hot.
